Description
The Piazzo Duomo seen in early morning light located in the center of the medieval city of Trento, Italy. Neptuneââ¬â¢s Fountain, also known as Fontana del Nettuno, can be seen in the middle of the public square with the Duomo Trento behind it. Sculpted by artist Stefano Salterio in the mid-1700ââ¬â¢s, the Baroque fountain is topped by the Roman god of the sea, Neptune, brandishing his three-prong trident. The original settlement founded by the Celts, was conquered by the Romans who named the city Tridentum, referencing their Roman god Neptune. Tridentum means ââ¬Åthree teethââ¬Â and refers to the three mountain peaks that surround the city. Framed by a bright blue sky, the mountain peaks of the Dolomites can be viewed from the piazza.
